burnham is a town near the Thames Estuary in Essex, with a big marina and loads of pubs by the river (which sell excellent crab sandwiches!)

the road to recovery!

had a big shock a few weeks ago, when i discovered that the slight twinges i had been experiencing were actually angina! my doctor sent me to a cardiologist to investigate and i ended up having a coronary bypass two weeks ago. the miracles of modern medicine had me back on my feet really quickly, and now i have to walk an increasing distance each day.
so today, we went to trent park, which is a lovely country park near enfield (north of london).

BLACK & WHITE

thought you could all have a giggle at this choice finding ... when we got married (in the 60s as if you couldn't have guessed from the floppy hat and frank zappa moustache) we never got around to buying any of the wedding photos, and all we have got is a very curled and fading set of proofs ... but with my newly purchased scanner, all that is about to change, and we too can have our wedding photos proudly displayed in silver frames!! (well, perhaps on second thoughts, they are best left curling up in a box)

painting trip to goring on thames

two barges on the river
View all 11 photos...
just got back from three days of bliss ... the members of the watercolour class i attend all went on a trip to Goring on Thames, where we stayed in a great little pub, the John Barleycorn (thanks Gary and Donna for making us so welcome) and spent the days painting on the banks of the river Thames at goring, which is a small town just south of Oxford.

we all managed to produce something we were quite pleased with, and had a really relaxing time. Here are a few photos of Goring and my finished paintings and sketches - no great masterpieces, but i am pleased with them!

special thanks to Ron - the master of the barge 'Inkie and I', which featured in most of our paintings, for his endless supply of cups of earl grey tea, and constructive criticism, which kept us going.

Nice shots....and the sketches are super.....nice "implied line"... Mon 28-Jun-2004 02:44

The Gatehouse

They really know how to prune this wisteria which has grown over the Gatehouse at Hatfield House ... don't know how many centuries it has been growing, but the gatehouse itself must be three or four hundred years old.

Lovely old Hatfield House. Thanks for the memory Thu 3-Jun-2004 12:42

unusual visitor

i was hoping to catch the woodpecker ... instead just caught a glimpse of the woodmouse that sits on my kitchen window sill most evenings cleaning up any dropped birdseed (haven't been able to get him that close)

we planted this wisteria about ten years ago and in the last three years it has gone mad (mainly thanks to my nice next door neighbour who makes sure i prune it properly) last year it flowered three times - it is now twisted round the tv arial on the chimney!

How I long to visit England again. I'm in upstate New York, and it's lovely here now. My garden is flourishing. But seeing your photos of the trees on Sunday in England was a great surprise and beautifully done! Thank you! Tue 13-Jul-2004 21:03
