it's that squirrel again

i was sitting at my computer, typing away, when i heard a chattering noise just outside the window ... and it was the squirel, bold as brass, sitting staring at me from just a couple of feet away. He obviously felt i should leave him to his meal in peace, as he kept flicking his tail and making warning signals at me. I had to go all the way downstairs to fetch my camera, and he was still there when i got back and posed beautifully for me!

Those squirrels are really gorgeous. Thanks for getting so close and for sharing them! Fri 24-Sep-2004 20:23

the name of this beach comes from the smooth pink rocks - they look pinkest as the tide is going out, while they are still wet

on the beach in wales

we went to Wales at the weekend, and spent quite a bit of time on the beach at Pink Bay (west of Porthcawl). i am amazed how deserted the beach was, especially as these were taken late on sunday morning in the middle of the school holidays, however it is quite a trek to get to this beach, you can't drive there. it was low tide and as you can see a very disappointing day for the surfers!

the distant people in #2 were about a mile away at Rest Bay ... a real test for my super dooper 10x optical plus 4x digital zoom (and i didn't have a tripod so it's pretty shaky, but i rather like the haziness)

the final day of the Wales Ladies Open Golf was taking place at the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club which is right next to this beach ... will post some pics of this soon

Great beach.

I like picture 3 because I probably would have ignored a shot like that - a wave against a wave would appear like a fault to me, but it does make a very interesting photograph with the crossed lines.

I also like number 5

Cheers Nick

I have to agree with Dragan.I try not to use the digital zoom feature because of the noise it produces.
Great shot in # 3

i spent yesterday at the Guildhall Library, in the City of London, looking for family history stuff - and i remembered to take my camera with me!

the city of london is quite a remarkable place, with ancient buildings still standing amidst the modern glass and concrete ... these shots were all taken within a few hundred yards of the Guildhall.

Lovely to see parts of London not destroyed by the city fathers! Thu 12-Aug-2004 09:26

sports day

have been REALLY tied up with my family history stuff (thank you donna and zarla in canada for all your help in this) but i did manage to find time to go to grand-daughter Rosie Jo's sports day.
it was a lovely sunny day and children, parents, and even the teachers (who must be exhausted by the end of term) all had great fun.
as well as a few traditional running races, there were lots of inventive games where there were no individual winners, everyone participated at each activity in teams made up of children from reception right through to year 6 ... well done to the TIGERS who won, and commiserations to the ALLIGATORS who didn't!

today we walked at kenwood, on the edge of hampstead heath ... however, i suspect that much of the good work done by the brisk walking was somewhat undone when we stopped for tea and carrot cake at the tea house!

yup ... nitpicker is quite right, the photo is indeed the river Lea. The other photos I took were all of the lakes themselves, but this was the nicest one. Thu 30-Sep-2004 09:30
